Located in Mersin, Baibars aims to become an international brand by increasing its domestic production rate with this investment.

The Turkish startup Baibars, which specializes in developing agricultural spraying drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has received investment from the Japanese company Exedy, one of the world’s largest mechanical equipment component manufacturers, at a valuation of $15 million. The financial details of the investment were not disclosed to the press, likely due to Exedy being publicly traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Founded in 2015 in Çukurova with the aim of meeting the technological needs of Turkish farmers through domestic capabilities, Baibars focuses on the development, production, system integration, and lifecycle support processes of autonomous aviation systems in agriculture. Aspiring to become a pioneer in its sector in Turkey, the domestic startup controls its agricultural drones and tactical UAVs, all of which are developed entirely through national R&D, under the Baibars brand.

Baibars Yaver, controlled by the domestic startup, assists in efficient operation under challenging conditions with high precision and ease of use. The startup’s Baibars Assistant, with its continuously updated satellite-based database, helps determine the operational area, suitable spraying options for crops, flight altitude, and route. The startup’s drones, tactical UAVs, control systems, and software offer a 360-degree solution in agricultural use.

While some of the startup’s technologies bear the name “tactical UAV,” they are not armed systems. The term “tactical” is more related to the functional use of these UAVs, as they are capable of carrying heavy loads and performing supply missions between stations, allowing Baibars’ UAVs to be used in various fields. According to the startup’s statement, as per the agreement with Exedy, no military systems will be produced.

Following the investment, Baibars’ founder and CEO, Çağlayan Erguvan, shared the company’s future plans with Swipeline, saying, “As a result of this agreement, we aim to increase our domestic production rate, sustain value-added production in our country, contribute economically and to employment, and strive to become an international brand.
