With the upcoming Google feature in the testing phase, TikTok aims to meet the expectations of individuals who use social media platforms for research purposes.

Last week, TikTok made headlines with claims that it would integrate Wikipedia into its platform. Now, TikTok is preparing to introduce a “Search on Google” feature within its search results.

TikTok, working to diversify its services, ranging from innovative content formats to shopping features, to keep users engaged on its platform, plans to add this new Google integration to its search page. With this feature, users will be able to view content from the broader internet, in addition to TikTok results. A TikTok spokesperson confirmed that the Google feature, which has also started appearing for some users, is one of the third-party integrations being tested in a few markets.

As the use of social media continues to rise, individuals are increasingly turning to social media platforms for research. A Google executive noted that TikTok and Instagram are often the preferred platforms for this purpose. Prabhakar Raghavan, Senior Vice President at Google, stated in a press release, “We continue to learn that new internet users don’t have the same expectations and mindset as we’re used to. According to our research, nearly 40% of young people don’t go to Google Maps or Search when looking for a place to eat lunch.”

The parties involved have not provided information about which markets are currently testing the feature, whether it will be made available to the general public, or the extent of its scope, as the feature is still in the testing phase.
